The EDGE research project is of high strategic importance in Denmark, where the national plans aim for 50% electricity demand to be supplied from wind power by the year 2020. Such large variable wind power production results in an increased power imbalance in the electricity system. This is a major challenge for the reliable and stable operation of the power system.
The EDGE project addresses this issue by developing novel robust control methods and optimisation strategies to effectively coordinate and manage electricity consumption and production units in the electricity grids. The system design is made flexible to adapt to an improved dynamic market structure and the limits imposed by distribution grids and communication infrastructure.
