History of Aalborg University

Aalborg University is a fairly young university. It was founded in 1974. Although the idea of forming a University in Aalborg was more than 15 years at that time. AAU was formed with a close relation to the surrounding community.

In 1994 Aalborg University Centre changed its name to Aalborg University (AAU), and in 1995 the cooperation between Aalborg University and the School of Engineering in the town of Esbjerg led to a merger of the two, resulting in what is today Aalborg University Esbjerg, encompassing the fields of Natural Sciences and Engineering. Aalborg University is widely known for its way of educating its students. The study form has its roots in problem oriented project work. Through their project work the students has to acquire knowledge themselves which is needed for the project work. This encourages deep learning and often makes learning more fun since the students get to use their new skills in the project.
